What kind of gun was trayvon martin shot with
This is a piece of American History. The Smithsonian Museum quickly rebutted this claim in a tweet, saying it "never expressed interest in collecting George Zimmerman's firearm.
The sale has also attracted the attention of Hillary Clinton, who tweeted a message of support to Martin's mother. The GunBroker. Nearly 50, people visited the page before the listing was taken down.
It has been more than four years since the fatal confrontation took place in a gated community in Sanford, Florida. Martin, 17, was returning to a relative's house after leaving a convenience store when he was shot by Zimmerman.
Prosecutors accused Zimmerman of profiling Martin as a criminal, possibly because of his race, and following him with a loaded gun.
He said the buyer was a woman who had wanted the gun as a birthday present for her son. But Mr Zimmerman said he would not reveal the buyer's identity, adding: "The winning bidder will ultimately decide if they want their information to be maintained in confidentiality. Mr Zimmerman called GunBroker "Nazi loving liberal liars". Mr Zimmerman said some of the proceeds would serve to "fight [Black Lives Matter] violence against law enforcement officers". But Martin family lawyer Benjamin Crump told Fox the sale was "offensive, outrageous and insulting".
Trayvon Martin was walking home from a shop in Sanford, Florida, in February when there was an altercation with Mr Zimmerman. Mr Zimmerman said he had fired in self-defence. That account was taken down, but others made by users with similarly questionable names were still listed. After reportedly saying it would take down the auction Thursday, United Gun Group released a statement Friday on Twitter apparently walking back that decision.
The statement said that "unless the law has been violated, it is the intention of United Gun Group to allow its members to use any of the available features. United Gun Group did not immediately respond to requests for comment about the auction. There was at least one person on the site saying they had a "legitimate offer" for the weapon Friday. The group is the second to host the listing after an initial site, GunBroker. The auction listing on United Gun Group includes a description of the firearm — a 9 mm Kel-Tec PF-9 pistol — written by Zimmerman, the former neighborhood watch captain acquitted by a jury in Martin's shooting death.
Zimmerman, 32, said the Justice Department had recently returned the pistol to him, and he was not comfortable with some of the offers he has received from prospective gun buyers that he decided to sell it himself through the auction.
